چکیده

Politano and Pouquet’s law, a generalization of Kolmogorov’s four-fifths law to incompressible MHD, makes it possible to measure the energy cascade rate in incompressible MHD turbulence by means of third-order moments. In hydrodynamics, accurate measurement of thirdorder moments requires large amounts of data because the probability distributions of velocity-differences are nearly symmetric and the third-order moments are relatively small. Measurements of the energy cascade rate in solar wind turbulence have recently been performed for the first time, but without careful consideration of the accuracy or statistical uncertainty of the required third-order moments. This paper investigates the statistical convergence of third-order moments as a function of the sample size N . It is shown that the accuracy of the third-moment 〈(δv‖)〉 depends on the number of correlation lengths spanned by the data set and a method of estimating the statistical uncertainty of the thirdmoment is developed. The technique is illustrated using both wind tunnel data and solar wind data.

Pseudo Zernike Moment-based Multi-frame Super Resolution

The goal of multi-frame Super Resolution (SR) is to fuse multiple Low Resolution (LR) images to produce one High Resolution (HR) image. The major challenge of classic SR approaches is accurate motion estimation between the frames. To handle this challenge, fuzzy motion estimation method has been proposed that replaces value of each pixel using the weighted averaging all its neighboring pixels i...

On the dependence of third- and fourth-order moments on stability in the turbulent boundary layer

Analysis of published data on the thirdand fourth-order moments of vertical velocity in the atmospheric boundary layer is performed, and it is shown that turbulence is non-Gaussian even when almost symmetric. It is also proposed that the relationship between thirdand fourth-order moments depends on stability. New data from a wind tunnel experiment roughly support this hypothesis. The analysis p...

An Investigation of Higher-order Closure Models for a Forested Canopy

Simultaneous triaxial sonic anemometer velocity measurements vertically arrayed at six levels within and above a uniform pine forest were used to examine two parameterization schemes for the triple-velocity correlation tensor employed in higher-order closure models. These parameterizations are the gradient-diffusion approximation typically used in second-order closure models, and the full budge...

Spectrally condensed turbulence in thin layers

We present experimental results on the properties of bounded turbulence in thin fluid layers. In contrast with the theory of two-dimensional 2D turbulence, the effects of the bottom friction and of the spectral condensation of the turbulence energy are important in our experiment. Here we investigate how these two factors affect statistical moments of turbulent fluctuations. The inverse energy ...

Estimation of harmonic interference parameters of surface-NMR signal using an adaptive method and residual signal power

Surface nuclear magnetic resonance (surface-NMR) method is a well-known tool for determining the water-bearing layers and subsurface resistivity structure. Harmonic interference is an inevitable interference in surface-NMR measurements. Accurate estimation of harmonic interference parameters (i.e., fundamental frequency, phase and amplitude) leads to better retrieval of power-line harmonics and...
